The model on one page
Everything in the book follows from eight ideas, and most of the practices are one move in new settings: lower importance, let the heart choose, act lightly along the path of least resistance.
- 1
Two layers of reality
An information field, the alternatives space, holds every possible version of every event; one version becomes physical. The energy of your thoughts, meaning attitude and attention rather than words, decides which. The chain of versions you actually live through is your lifeline. You cannot edit the scene you are in; you can only move to a neighbouring one.

Pendulums
When many people think alike, their thought energy forms a self-sustaining structure that feeds on emotion, pulls attention with strings such as fear, guilt, duty and pride, and sets goals that are not yours. Fighting a pendulum feeds it; so does fearing it. The defence is to ignore it, or step aside without a charge.

- 3
Importance, excess potential, balanced forces
Inflate the value of anything, yourself included, and you create a pocket of surplus energy that the world levels out, usually in the direction you did not want. That is why wanting too hard fails and calm people seem lucky. Lowering importance is the master move; every later technique assumes it.

- 4
Heart and mind, inner and outer intention
The mind reasons and wills but is deaf to the field; the heart hears the field but has no will. Inner intention is the mind pushing on the world. Outer intention is the world arranging itself, and it works only when heart and mind agree, which is why feared outcomes arrive so reliably. Need and desire block it; a calm resolve to have does not.

Slides, goals, doors
A slide is a picture you hold of yourself or the world; held long enough, outer intention makes it fact. Your own goal feels light to the heart; a foreign goal feels like duty or proof. The door is the route that opens easily. Picture the achieved goal as a scene you live in, grant yourself the will to have it, take the next small step.

Energy and frailing
Intention runs on free energy, which importance, obligations, postponed plans and guilt tie up. With people, frailing reverses the usual stance: find what the other person wants and help them get it; your own aim is met on the way.

- 7
The mirror and the delay
The world reflects your attitude, not your wishes, and with a lag. Refusing something keeps it in the mirror as surely as wanting it. Work on the image you present, read every turn of events as going your way, and give the reflection time.

- 8
Waking up
Most life is lived half asleep inside pendulum scripts. The whole method depends on noticing, in the moment, what you are thinking and whose goal you are serving, and then choosing.
Developed in Chapter VII, Chapter XVI, Chapter XVII
The loop the book keeps returning to
lower importance, ask the heart, choose your own goal and door, hold the slide calmly, act in small steps with the flow, take every setback as a turn in your favour, keep a safety net, stay awake.
